A look at Wednesday...

It was a rather uneventful Wednesday in Kentucky High School Softball Land. Here a few scores of note...

--#8 Ballard d. #23 Fern Creek 2-1
The Bruins string together two consecutive 7th region victories, but one wonders if the Tigers weren't the ones who gained the most respect here.

--#18 Butler d. Southern 10-0 (6 innings)
Last year, it was Southern representing the 6th region in the state tournament. This year, it looks as if Butler will be the 6th region team playing at state.

--#10 Lafayette d. #21 Woodford County 5-1
Lafayette is the team to beat in Lexington.

--#20 Shelby County vs. Scott County...canceled
The Rockets looked to gain some revenge on their outgoing regional foe, but the game, as said, was canceled.

Now, for Thursday...

  • You may be right about Lafayette as the team to beat in Lexington. They defeated Woodford County without their starting catcher and senior pitcher Tyler Travis who are on their senior trip. Lafayette has a freshman pitcher worth keeping an eye on though.

But watch Scott County. They may be the most underrated team in the state. A win over Lafayette would not be a surprise and Lafayette is pretty good.
