Regional Tournament Watch: Tuesday

The following regions will play all four of their first round games: 6

The 7th Region will play one first round game: #13 Mercy vs. Eastern
The 9th Region will play one first round game: #2 Ryle vs. Holmes
The 12th Region will play these first round games: Southwestern vs. Rockcastle County, Danville vs. Wayne County

The following regions will play their semifinal games: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16

The 10th Region is idle tomorrow.

The Top 10 Games of the Day...

10) Rockcastle County vs. Southwestern (region 12 quarterfinal)
This opening game features the defending 13th region champion and the team that blitzed the 12th region this season for 22 wins.
9) Central Hardin vs. Green County (region 5 semifinal)
The winner would likely play North Hardin in the championship game; it's been a down year for Central's Bruins, but a win over the Dragons would help the cause.
8) Meade County vs. Muhlenberg North (region 3 semifinal)
What could have been Grayson County vs. Apollo is this game, but don't sleep on either of these teams if they should meet Owensboro Catholic in the 3rd region final.
7) #6 Reidland vs. Marshall County (region 1 semifinal)
Reidland passed its toughest test in the 1st region by beating St. Mary, but the Greyhounds still have two more games to win, starting with the Marshals.
6) Shelby County vs. Grant County (region 8 semifinal)
Anderson County is gone in the 8th region, leaving the door open for these two teams; keep in mind that Grant County is one of only two teams who have beaten Ryle (North Hardin).
5) #4 Allen County-Scottsville vs. Franklin-Simpson (region 4 semifinal)
Last season, the Wildcats pushed the Patriots to the brink in the regional semifinal round. If ACS is looking ahead to Greenwood, it may happen again, but it might happen anyway.
4) #7 Henderson County vs. Lyon County (region 2 semifinal)
It would be tremendously disappointing for Henderson County to lose now after defeating the #1 team in the state in the quarterfinal round. The Lyons will provide a stiff test.
3) #20 Scott County vs. #14 Lafayette (region 11 semifinal)
With Dunbar done, this game might be for the 11th region title. Can newcomer Scott County ruin the party for the Generals?
2) #19 Hopkins County Central vs. #22 Union County (region 2 semifinal)
The Storm and the Braves meet today in what could be a fantastic regional championship. Expect this one to be close throughout.
1) #10 North Laurel vs. #15 South Laurel (region 13 semifinal)
New region, same scenario: The Laurels meet in the regional tournament, this year a round early and a region over. But the winner of this Battle of London will be heavily favored in the 13th regional championship game.

  • All of the 7th region games are played Wednesday. Eastern and Mercy don't play today. They play the last game tomorrow evening.

  • Any word on the Grayson/Muhl North game? Got the score, just wondering if anyone had some info on it.

  • That N/S Laurel game should be a great one, especially since they split their regular season games, winning at each other's fields.

  • The Lafayette-Scott County game should be a good one. Most importantly it will be a game between two teams who respect each other on and off the field. It is a rivalry but a friendly rivalry.

  • ^^You're right about that, the girls and coaches all play together in the summer which makes for very interesting games in the high school season since neither team can really surprise the other.
I see this one being very close.

  • Eastern and Mercy 7th region play tomorrow at 730, not tonight. KSCA has the game incorrectly posted.

  • The North Laurel/South Laurel game was a great one. South Laurel defeated North Laurel 2-1 in 12 innings.

  • Lafayette pulls it out 2-1 against Scott Co.

  • Sometimes a team just has another team's number and once that gets in their head it's hard to get it out.

  • If Coach Durham would worry about getting his team ready by playing a tough schedule instead of worrying about getting his 30 wins a year then things might change.

  • I have a question for you CorbinRat. I dont know how you can say something like that. According to the KHSAA scoreboard, South Laurel is 5-2 against North Laurel in the last two years. If South Laurel wasn't the best team then how can they beat North Laurel 5 out of 7 in 2 years?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11:31 AM

  • North Laurel had trouble all year hitting because they have the pitching and the fielding ability to compete with any one. Next year I think North will be the team to beat in the 13th with South losing its star pitcher and some key hitters, while North does lose some key players, they still retain their star pitcher for 2 more years. If Im not mistaken 6 of the starters are either freshmen or sophomores, and from what I heard their middle school went undefeated and beat SLMS twice. It could be back to the same ole days when North just steam rolled through the region and then there were everyone else and South.

  • Actually its 2-6 according to the KHSAA. But the main number is 5-2 over the last 7 games against North Laurel

  • I hate to bust both of your bubbles. If in fact that South has won the last 5 of 7 then they are the best team. However neither team had a chance in this years State Tournament. They have to face Owensboro Catholic. Even if they did win that game they would have to play Henderson County. North Laurel only gets respect for 2 reasons. 1) Becky Abner (you take away her record from the state tournament and North's record is just as bad as South's) 2) Mr McAllister Like I said, it doesn't matter who is the best because the best softball is in the western part of the state. Always has been and always will be.
