State Tournament Week: Tuesday

There's been some good discussion about who Miss Softball should be, but it looks as if it comes down to two candidates: Henderson County's Stacy Whitmer and Greenwood's Brittany York. Is it too much to ask for these two and their respective teams to meet in the state championship game?

Here's today's question for discussion...

What was the best game of the year?

I have to put my .02 in here: Owensboro Catholic vs. Allen County-Scottsville in the semifinals of the Sports Warehouse Classic was a thriller. The teams went back and forth for the first six innings, and entering the 7th, the score was tied at 4. It seemed that Catholic broke through for good, scoring three runs in the top of the inning. But the Patriots rallied, scoring four runs in the bottom of the 7th, including scoring the tying and winning runs on a pass ball + throwing error. It was some game, but I'm sure there are many more to talk about. What do you think?

  • Best game I saw was 4th region championship game between Allen County and Greenwood. The crowd was electric, biggest crowd I'd ever seen at a softball game, and that includes a number of college games. It was tense on both sides, especially after the stunt Bonds pulled in Owensboro, and some back and forth stuff that went on at Kypreps. So the stage was set, and it lived up to they hype. Game was 1-0 most of the way so every base runner was important. Greenwood was nearly flawless on defense, as was ACS until late in the game and a couple of miscues gave Greenwood and insurance run in the top of the 7th. And to top it off it ended with York in the circle and throwing a girl out at first to end the game. Now this may not seem like a big deal outside of BG, but anyone who has watched the channel 13 news over the past 2 or 3 months, knows why it was. York had a critical throwing error in last year's championship game when she overthrew first base in extra innings, and 13 has shown that play about 50 times this year. So it was a good ending to a great game.

  • For the first anonymous, I will have state tournament prediction and previews either tomorrow or Thursday.

Another idea for best game: I wasn't there, but I'm sure the 18-inning deathmatch between Henderson County and Union County was darn good.

  • That's funny that you think that WBKO makes you sick, because I thought Greenwood was the only softball team in Warren Co. Of course we all know there are others but when you turn the news on the only sports on softball is GREENWOOD!!!! I also remember all the fussing on ky preps last year were gator fans carrrying on about getting beat. I am so proud of Allen Co. fans that they have the class to bow out graceful in defeat.

  • What about Estill County this year. They came out of nowhere last year and were 4th(?) in the State Tournament. Maybe they are ready to do a repeat and go farther. Has anyone seen them play this year?

  • One of the best games I saw was the Lafayette-Lexington Catholic game in the 43rd District semifinals.

It went 14 innings with Lafayette winning 1-0. Because the loser would be going home for the season you could feel the tension in the air, and the teams had played two one run games in the regular season.

Lafayette's Tyler Travis was at home sick adding to the tension because their freshman pitcher had to pitch all 14 innings. The pitching was strong for both teams and the defense was excellent on two errors in the entire game.

  • Best game of the year had to be the 6th District Championship or shall I say Marathon. Union County pitcher out does the so called best pitcher in the state from Henderson. Watch out for these girls from the UC next year. They had NO seniors this year and a rookie coach. Look for Drage to be in the running for Ms. Softball next year.
