"Thrill"ing Notes

Here are some notes I've gathered from the Thrill in the Ville...

--#3 Christian County d. #1 Greenwood 9-0
In what was supposed to be a close duel between two top-5 teams, the Colonels of Christian County hit Brittany York again and again for nine runs off 12 hits. Meanwhile, Sarah Driver shut down the Gators offense, limiting them to four hits.

--#3 Christian County d. #12 Mercy 2-1
Christian County's #2 pitcher, 8th grader Stacy Harbold, proved dominant against the homestanding Jaguars, allowing only one hit to Mercy.

--#8 Reidland d. #1 Greenwood 4-0
The Greyhounds pounced on the top-ranked Gators, scoring four runs in the first innings off a few defensive errors and a couple of wild pitches.

--#5 Owensboro Catholic d. #7 North Hardin 4-0
Catholic's offense was it's usual efficient self in a win over the Trojans.

--#14 Ballard d. #7 North Hardin 1-0
This win over the Trojans completes Ballard's week, which featured wins over Grayson County, PRP, Male and Floyd Central (IN).

Other scores...

#8 Reidland d. #16 Grayson County 3-1
#12 Ballard d. Floyd Central (IN) 8-0
#5 Owensboro Catholic d. #12 Mercy 6-4
#16 Grayson County d. Floyd Central (IN) 1-0

Analysis: What a difference a week makes for Greenwood. Last Saturday, they were beating Male, Christian County and ACS. Even this week, the Gators outlasted Henderson County at home. But this was Sad Saturday for Greenwood, losing two games and produced nothing on the scoreboard. This makes two sour trips to Louisville on the season for Greenwood. If they get a third chance to make the trip up I-65, will they tank that too? Reidland, Christian County and Owensboro Catholic might have named themselves as the top three contenders for the state championship on this day. And even though they lost two games, Mercy proved to be a threat at the state level, provided the Jaguars escape the 7th region AND Male in the district tournament. North Hardin might be in the same group as Ryle and Henderson County: FANTASTIC pitching, but little hitting. And as for Grayson County, the young Cougars might not be to Owensboro Catholic's level as the last few years, but they will remain a threat this season in the 3rd region.

  • Greenwood did not play Male last week. They did play earlier in the Ft. Knox tournament and Male won 2 to 0.

  • My bad about Male. Let's substitute Muhlenberg North and Sacred Heart for them.

  • WHO DID ALLEN CO PLAY? DID THEY WIN?

  • What happenned to Greenwood? Were they just not playing well or was something else going on?

  • Who knows really what is going on with Greenwood. They just need to get their act together and play like a team if they want to go far in post season play. JMO!

  • Attitude does reflect leadership and when the leader stands with arms crossed and angry look on their face it makes the whole team feel mad and confused. Makes you play with anger instead of having fun. Anger makes mistakes.

  • Greenwood played like a team the first half of the season. What's so different now?

  • Error after error after error....

  • Gator B - Does that quote apply to "parental leadership" as well?

If a child constantly hears negative about their coach just because they are not getting playing time - can that not lead to some of thos "internal problems" you talk about?

Does Greenwood parents not take it too far and cause alot of the problems?

  • I agree with the above post regarding the negative comments having a bad effect on the kids. Too often parents can't see that their kids would need any discipline whatsoever and heaven help us all if they take a butt-chewing over careless mistakes made during a game or if a coach seems to be mad because of error after error after error like said above. When they're constantly hearing their parents bitch and moan all the time about that "awful, mean, nasty coach" (who just so happens to have an awesome record) they think it's okay to show disrespect themselves. So sad......

  • Let's not have any personal attacks on other fans.

  • Criticisms of coaches will be allowed. We are fans and we know exactly what is going on and what we think is right should be.

But I don't want fans calling out other fans. You can ask questions about what they mean in their posts...such as the "parental leadership" question earlier. But direct criticisms really get on MY nerves here. To the anonymous poster above: please refrain from such personal attacks.

And for the record, I do appreciate people who do put a name to their response, but I don't mind people just posting anonymously. What I DO mind is when people attack other posters (not coaches) anonymously.

And come on people, for all but 16 teams, the season ends next week. Can't we all get along?

  • Ben: Your website is becoming as low as Ky. Preps. Can just anybody start up their own site? You spend most of your time putting Greenwood down instead of reporting about the state's softball.

Gator B: Do you have a job?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 4:57 PM

  • Ben, why would you allow an outright personal attack on a coach to be posted? There's a huge difference between speaking your mind about a softball issue and personally slandering the coach. I don't understand. It seems that you are trying to tell the fans to respect other fans but that's it okay to go right ahead and take all the pot-shots you want at the coaching staff. I think they deserve better than that.

  • I said CRITICISMS of coaches will be allowed. There are plenty of people that do not agree with what a coach is doing, and it's your American right to voice your opinion. I said nothing about allowing PERSONAL ATTACKS against coaches. I know that it might be tough to tell the difference, but that'll be at my discretion. Sorry if I caused any confusion with my response.

And for this: "Your website is becoming as low as Ky. Preps. Can just anybody start up their own site? You spend most of your time putting Greenwood down instead of reporting about the state's softball." I find KY Preps to be a good resource despite its occasional faults. Yes, anyone can start their own site. And I spend most of my time putting down Greenwood? Besides the Owensboro tournament, which I admit my opinions cannot be considered objective in this case (but I liked to share them anyway), I have not put down Greenwood. In fact, it's the Greenwood fans who have put down Greenwood more than anyone else. If you would, point out to me any other occasions throughout these two months that show that I'm putting down Greenwood.

  • On second thought, let's shut this one down.
