5/16 and 5/17

Looking back at Tuesday...

--#1 Greenwood d. #5 Owensboro Catholic 3-2 (3 innings)
By Wednesday morning, this score had been pulled from KHSAA's scoreboard, so I'm assuming it will not go down as an official game, and it shouldn't seeing it was only three innings long. In any case, we know one thing from this short contest: the difference between the #1 and the #5 team in the state is little to none.

--#9 Male d. PRP 12-0
PRP had been making noise in the 6th region, but the probable challenger to Butler in that region made no noise on Tuesday. Male, along with Mercy, is the favorite in the 7th region. Of course, those two teams will play in the first round of the 25th District Tournament.

--#17 Manual d. Oldham County 4-3 (10 innings)
Manual is the other team making the 25th the strongest district in the state, but it's Oldham County that made a statement here. The 8th region will be very interesting, with Anderson County and Shelby County leading the way. But don't sleep on Oldham, whose quick start got them ranked but haven't made any noise of late.

Let's look ahead at some of Wednesday's top games. Keep in mind some of these games may be canceled due to teams approaching their game limits...

--#1 Ryle @ Holmes
--#12 Mercy vs. Atherton
--Clarksville (IN) @ #17 Manual
--#19 Butler @ Fairdale (this game may be canceled...not sure though)
--Danville @ #24 Anderson County

Game of the Day...
#14 Ballard @ #9 Male
Ballard is coming off a sour win against Grayson County in which a questionable third strike call decided the game. The Bruins have been labeled on this site as overrated. Today is a chance for Ballard to silence all critics, as they take on, according to my rankings, the top team in the 7th region in Male.

  • Thanks. Butler likes to keep us guessing. I wonder what Mercy is doing tonight then?
