Ballard's Move, Other Events, and Then Thursday

From Wednesday...

--#14 Ballard d. #9 Male 2-1
I guess all the whining and complaining about how Ballard is overrated can stop, at least for a little while. With a win over Grayson County already in the bag this week, the Bruins went for and captured a bigger win, upsetting the top-ranked team in the seventh region. I would say these two will meet again in the regional tournament, but Mercy may have something to say about that.

--#24 Anderson County d. Danville 2-1
The Admirals' ship is sinking somewhat, as this loss to the Bearcats follows a loss to regional foe Southwestern, who has amassed 21 regional wins this season. Meanwhile, Anderson County seems to have established itself as the favorite in the 8th region, as district rival Shelby County was upset by Trimble County last night.

--#2 Ryle d. Holmes 10-0
Ryle hasn't lost since in exactly a month when it lost to Grant County. The Raiders have ruled the 9th region this year with an iron fist, and if there's any team in the state that seems the most immune to upset in the district and regional tournaments, it looks like it's Ryle.

Now, let's look ahead to an action-packed Thursday...

--#22 Butler @ #7 North Hardin
--Rockcastle County @ #10 Dunbar
--#12 Mercy @ Providence (IN)
--Danville @ #15 South Laurel
--#16 Grayson County @ Apollo
--Woodford County @ #18 Scott County
--#19 Edmonson County @ Franklin-Simpson
--#20 Larue County @ Meade County
--Logan County @ #23 Muhlenberg North
--Frankfort @ #24 Anderson County
--#25 Barren County @ Bowling Green

Upset Alert...
PRP @ #14 Ballard
Yeah, this one doesn't make sense. Male beats PRP by 12, Ballard beats Male, so Ballard should stomp PRP too. However, this kind of logic never works for high school sports. Expect this game to be a tight one after Ballard's big win over Male.

Game of the Day...
--#6 Henderson County @ #1 Greenwood
This is, hopefully, a matchup between one of the best hitting teams in the state (Greenwood) and one of the best pitchers in the state (Stacy Whitmer). What gives? This might be the most appealing matchup we've seen all year.

  • I do believe Ballard will run rule prp! After PRP's lucky win over Butler they became cocky and over confident and havnt shown much since!

  • It is Senior night at Ballard. I will be very surprised if there is a let down. 5 Seniors that have been associated with the program for years are leaving, and it should be an emotional game for Ballard.

  • Last year Greenwood beat Hendo 1-0 on a solo HR off the bat of Brittany York. I expect this to be another low scoring affair with the final margin being 1-0 or 2-1. Don't know who will win, but should be a tight game and help both teams prepare for the post season.

  • Haven't seen anything on here about allen co. this week! Who have they played amd what were the scores. If you are such an Allen Co. fan why haven't you put anything on here about their games this week.

  • Ballard 2, PRP 0. PRP fought hard, but never got a runner past second base. PRP's short stop came up with some big plays. Ballard had runners on base every inning but finally broke through in the 6th inning. Exciting, well played game by both teams. PRP should challenge in the 6th region.

  • ACS played Christian County last night in a "glorified scrimmage," as I am calling it. Tonight, ACS is in Lexington to play Dixie Heights and Lexington Catholic. Tomorrow, ACS will play at Franklin County and then Shelby County.
